6th November - Junior Fenland League

JFL Photo

Swimmers from Mildenhall Sharks, aged 9 - 13 years, took part in the Junior Fenland League Finals, hosting at the new Newmarket pool on Saturday evening.

Harry Wagner got proceedings off to a perfect start, taking 1st place in the 4 x 25m I.M swim, swiftly followed by 1st again for Grace Colasante with a 1.27.21 personal best for the girls. Callum Luker kept things rolling with 1st in the 50m fly, Anica Midthun again going one better for the girls by hitting a 1st place and pb 37.10. Sophia Colasante also clocked a pb with 47.38 in the 9 year 50m free, later hitting 56.07 for another pb in 50m back. Zoe Delgado matching this with a 51.08 pb in the 10 year breaststroke. Jack Marsh took 2 secs off his 50m fly pb to take a close 2nd, followed by Josh Ratta taking the same off his 50m free time in some style. Jack Marsh then hit a 1st in the 50m back with a fine finish. A superb swim saw Ben Jamieson blow his 50m breast best time away with 44.64, for yet another 1st place.

By this time a third of the races had been swum, Mildenhall holding 1st place with 64 points, Boston close behind on 58, Grantham still there with 55 and West Norfolk with 43. As the evening moved on Zoe Delgado hit another pb in the free, Callum Luker took 1st place with a pb of 39.74 for 50m fly, followed by Beth Sadler hitting 1st with a pb 37.66. Ben Wicks swam brilliantly all night, close 2nd places and pb's of 59.21 in the 9/u breast, 52.31 for back. Angel Walton hit a fine pb in the 9/u 50m free, followed by another in the fly, Kea Haw taking 1st with a pb 46.40 in the 12/u 50m breast. With only ten events to swim, Mildenhall still held a 7 point lead on 127 points, Boston 120. Grantham 108 and West Norfolk 87. Excellent swims from Jennifer Eagles, Harry Wagner and Ben Delgado clocked up three more 1st places, with Lauren Price taking 1st and a pb in the 11/u 50m breast. Ben Jamieson, Grace Colasante and Chloe Marsh rounded up the individual events with a great run of 1st placings in the fly and I.M swims, yet it was the final Canon Relay event that had the spectators on their feet.

The relay featured one boy and one girl from each age group. This was fast and furious, the crowd cheering wildly until Mildenhall eventually touched in 1st, just a second ahead of Grantham, who were in turn just a second ahead of Boston ! Final result ;-

1st Mildenhall 173 points,

2nd Boston 166,

3rd Grantham 142 and

4th West Norfolk B 113.
